Mark Warner, Ed Gillespie trade jabs in first Senate debate

Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Warner and Republican challenger Ed Gillespie had a heated exchange over women's health issues Saturday during their first debate.

Haymarket, Occoquan name new vice mayors

Earlier this month, Haymarket Town Council filled several positions with appointments to two boards and also named council member Steve Aikten the town's new vice mayor. Aitken was the only incumbent re-elected to the town council this past May and likewise became an automatic favorite to become the next vice mayor given his close tie with second-term Mayor David Leake. Council member Joseph Pasanello nominated Aitken and fellow council member Pamela Swinford at the July 7 council meeting, saying they've both "proven themselves" from their service to the town.
