Ronald Edward Smith, 80, passed away March 11 at his home in Bluemont. He was the son of Gardiner and Edith Smith and was born in Elmira, NY on 5/2/32. He lived in Leesburg and Bluemont for 49 years. He was employed as a Naval Architect for Naval Ships Systems Command in Crystal City before he retired to raise his patented "Gardiner Peaches".
He was a loving husband to his wife, Joyce, wonderful father to his sons Gregory and wife Kelley, Glenn and his wife Leslie, and deceased daughter Rhonda, grandsons Gary and wife Krysten, Justin and wife Cayleigh and Michael Smith who were the light of his life. Also, he leaves behind his twin sister Roberta, sister-in-law Janet Peterson and husband Lenny, sister-in-law Barbara, nieces and nephews, cousins and wonderful close friends. His brother Gardiner II predeceased him.
Graveside services for family will be held at Union Cemetery in Leesburg on Friday, March 22 at 11am. A "Celebration of Life" will be held on Saturday, March 23 from 3-6pm at the Bluemont Community Center for family and friends.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to "The Boulder Crest Retreat for Wounded Warriors", Bluemont, VA 20135 in memory of Ron Smith.
