Louise Hatchell Turney

Louise Hatchell Turney, 92, formerly of Charles Town, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2012 at Charlottes Home in Boonsboro, MD. Born January 8, 1920 in Smithfield, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Peyton M. and Elizabeth Joyner Hatchell. Born and raised in Smithfield, after marriage she relocated with her husband to Howard County, MD., Lovettsville, VA and Taneytown, MD. Upon the death of her husband, she moved to Charles Town to be closer to her children. She was a dedicated wife and mother and totally committed to her Christian faith. She was a 50 year member of the First Baptist Church, Brunswick MD, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School for 25 years. She was an avid reader and her interests included literature, art, history, quilting and poetry writing. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Willie Turney, brother Peyton Hatchell of Newport News, VA and sister Jacques Amos of Richmond VA. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jean Hartman and husband David, of Harpers Ferry WV, her sons, Bill Turney and wife Cheryl, of Brunswick MD and Lt. Col. Dan Turney and wife, Sharon of Loomis CA., 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Christian services will be conducted on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Eackles, Spencer and Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry/ Charles Town, WV. Friends and family to be received from 11:00 AM - 12:00 Noon with services at 12 Noon. Interment will be in Union Cemetery in Lovettsville, VA.
