New PW police chief named

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors announced Stephan M. Hudson as the new Prince William County Chief of Police. The announcement comes following a nationwide search and competitive hiring process. Applicants across the country applied and interviewed for the highly sought-after position.

Hudson has lived in Prince William County for the past 37 years and has been with the Prince William County Police Department for 30 years. During his time of service he has served as a patrol officer, a plain-clothes detective, Sergeant and First Sergeant supervising units in Juvenile, Academy and Patrol Bureaus and serving in line functions as SWAT team leader and Academy Instructor. He was promoted to the Command Level serving as a Lieutenant and then Captain in charge of Special Operations, Internal Affairs, and Vice/Narcotics Bureaus. Most recently he has served in the Senior Executive Level of the Department as Assistant Chief since 2008, in charge of Operations Division and then Criminal Investigations Division.

“Stephan Hudson exemplifies the character, integrity, creativity and dedication to service that is at the core of the Prince William Police Department,” said Melissa S. Peacor, County Executive. “I have full confidence that he will lead our department into the future as we face the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”

“Our Police Department is highly regarded throughout the country for its professionalism and commitment to excellence in all facets of police work,” said Corey A. Stewart, Chairman Prince William Board of County Supervisors. “The next Chief of Police must be able to continue that level of excellence and also lead the men and women who serve and protect the citizens of Prince William County. Hudson clearly has the ability to meet those needs.”

“I am humbled and more than honored to be selected to serve as the third police chief in the history of this department,” said Hudson. “I am also extremely thankful and proud to have worked alongside each member of the Police Department and appreciate the selfless service they provide to our citizens. I look forward to interacting with citizens throughout the County to hear their input regarding the law enforcement services we provide. It is that input that is vital to our ability to continue the nationally recognized work that has been done here, and to meet the future needs of the community as they arise.”

Stephan Hudson is a graduate of Gar-Field High School, received his Bachelor of Science in business management from National-Louis University, and his Master of Arts (with honors) in criminal justice from American Public University. He resides in Prince William County with his wife, Roxana, and has two children and three grandchildren, all raised in Prince William County.
