Local athletic events canceled for tonight

Due to local schools dismissing an hour early because of the inclement weather mix predicted for today, high school athletic games for Prince William County schools and those in the City of Manassas have been canceled or postponed.

Osbourn High School athletic director Ira DeGrood said this afternoon tonight's scheduled basketball games between Osbourn and Battlefield have been moved to Monday, Jan. 29. The girls game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. with boys game following.

Brentsville District High School activities director Jane Earman sent out an e-mail this morning stating that the Tigers' swim meet scheduled tonight at the Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center in Manssas is canceled and "will not be made up."

She added that tonight's basketball games between Brentsville District and Kettle Run are now scheduled for Feb. 6, with the boys playing on the Prince William side of Nokesville at Brentsville and the girls playing on the Fauquier side of Nokesville at Kettle Run.

A common message on county high school Web sites stated today, "All afternoon and evening activities are canceled."
