Just in for Culpeper at 1:25 p.m.: Tractor-trailer accident closes parts of Route 522

CULPEPER — Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) is closed near its intersection with Route 20 (Constitution Highway) in Orange County due to a tractor-trailer accident.

The truck, which was hauling plants, is overturned and is blocking the northbound and southbound travel lanes. The Virginia Department of Transportation, Virginia State Police, local police and fire and rescue are on the scene and have closed the road. The closure is likely to last two hours or more.

A detour has been established for motorists. Those traveling northbound should use Route 20 to Route 621 (Pine Stake Road) to Route 522 north. Southbound motorists will use Route 617 (Everona Road) to Route 20 to Route 522 south.

Real-time road conditions and weather forecasts are available on VDOT’s traffic and travel Web site, www.511Virginia.org. The site also has live traffic camera images for many major highways, including Interstate 64, I-66 and Routes 29 and 250 in Central Virginia. Motorists can call 511 from any telephone in Virginia for road and traffic conditions on all major highways in the state. Call 1-800-367-7623 24 hours a day to report highway-related problems or request information about Virginia’s highways.
