Greater PWC sends 32 wrestlers to state finals

There are 21 wrestlers from Prince William County and one from the City of Manassas set to compete this upcoming weekend at the Group AAA state championship, four county wrestlers in the Group AA state championship and six from the City of Manassas Park in the Group A state championship.

There are 21 wrestlers from Prince William County and one from the City of Manassas set to compete this upcoming weekend at the Group AAA state championship.

Meanwhile, four wrestlers from Brentsville District qualified for the Group AA state championship. Jeffrey Walker (106 pounds), Brenden Velez (113) and Zach Roseberry (195) all won Region II titles last weekend in Aldie while Justice Jacobs (132) placed second.

Manassas Park also is set to send six wrestlers to the Group A state championship after the team placed second in the Region B tournament last weekend. Regional winners from Manassas Park include Zach Trueting (126 pounds), Isaiah Baker (160) and Corey Jenkins (220) and runners-up include Gilbert Rodriguez (120), Fabian Rodriguez (132) and Enrique Torres (285).

The Group AAA state tournament is set to be held on Feb. 15 and 16 in Chesapeake at Oscar Smith High School and it will be hosted by Great Bridge High School. The Group AA and A state tournaments are set to be held in Salem at the Salem Civic Center.

Six county wrestlers claim No. 1 seeds entering the Group AAA tournament after winning Northwest Regional titles. The 22 overall competitors represent eight area schools: Battlefield (four), Forest Park (seven), Hylton (three), Osbourn (one), Osbourn Park (two), Patriot (two), Potomac (one), Stonewall Jackson (one) and Woodbridge (one).

No wrestlers from Gar-Field or Freedom (Woodbridge) qualified for states.
