On January 9th at 5:18AM, police responded to the area of James Madison Hwy and Stepping Stone Dr in Haymarket (20169) for a crash.

The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound on James Madison Hwy in the area above when the vehicle ran into the rear of a 1996 Volvo WCA [log truck].

The log struck was stopped at the intersection for a red traffic signal prior to the crash. The signal cycled to green and the log truck was beginning to accelerate when the collision occurred. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was transported to an area hospital where died. It was determined that the driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The driver of the log truck was not injured. No other passengers were in either vehicle. Speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the collision.

Identified:

The driver of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado was identified as Don Allen FINCHAM, 50, of Culpeper

The driver of the 1996 Volvo WCA log truck was identified as a 51 year old man of Culpeper
