PUBLIC COMMENT
The Fauquier County Parks and Recreation Department is soliciting public comment on the proposed permanent naming of 3 facilities in the County. In accordance with adopted policy, the Department has researched the geographical, historical, cultural, and physical features of the following facilities in order to determine names that are appropriate and reflect an important aspect of the facility or area.
The Department uses temporary names until permanent names can be chosen using the above criteria.
*Current temporary name - Riverton Trail
*Proposed new name - ”Lucky Hill Greenway for the greenway system running from the intersection of Tin Pot Run Lane through the Riverton Development and future developments north/east of Riverton including Meadows of Remington and subdivisions developed towards the quarry. Lucky Hill was a long uphill grade from both directions of the railroad route (from Rappahannock River and Bealeton) and the trains would slow accordingly. If the trains could make it over, they were considered lucky (information provided by Remington Community Partnership).
*Current temporary name - Whites Mill Trail
*Proposed new name-”Cedar Run Greenway" for the greenway system running along Cedar Run from the Warrenton Reservoir under Route 29 and through the constructed wetlands near the Whites Mill and Woods at Warrenton subdivisions.
*Current temporary name - none
*The Department seeks to name ”Cedar Run Management Area" for the entire 125+acre County property that runs along Cedar Run that includes the adjacent constructed wetlands and open space areas of Whites Mill and Woods at Warrenton. Part of the Cedar Run Greenway will run through this area.
All comments are encouraged and must be provided in writing and may be submitted by mail or email for 30 days from initial announcement with a deadline of November 14.
