Police arrest woman in November attempted theft

Thanks to media publicity and citizens phoning in tips, Culpeper police today charged a 37-year-old Culpeper woman, who allegedly attempted to take a shopping cart of merchandise from the Wal-Mart store on Nov. 28, 2012.

Police charged Jamie K. Marshall, of the 11510 block of Jameson Mill Road, with felony shoplifting.

The woman was with a black male, who has been identified but not charged with any crime at this time.

Marshall allegedly pushed the shopping cart to the front door, where the couple was confronted by store loss prevention personnel. Marshall then allegedly took items concealed in her purse and presented them to the store employees, abandoning the shopping cart containing additional store merchandise. The value of the items attempting to be stolen totaled more than $400, said Sgt. Jeff Dodson, who headed up the investigation

The couple fled on foot toward Belle Ave.

Police issued a news release Dec. 13, 2012 that resulted in widespread TV and newspaper publicity.
