NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS
IN LOUDOUN COUNTY
Nonprofit organizations seeking exemption from local real and/or personal property taxes for the 2016 tax year may file an application with the Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue by the April 1, 2015 deadline. Most charitable nonprofit organizations are not automatically exempt from local property taxes in the Commonwealth, even those that may be exempt from federal income taxes. The filing of an application with the Commissioner of the Revenue is the necessary first step to obtaining a local real estate or personal property tax exemption.Completed applications should be returned to the Commissioner of the Revenue with a postmark by April 1, 2015 for consideration this year. Any exemption, if granted, would be effective January 1, 2016.

Notification of 2015 business tax filing requirements has been mailed to each business and self-employed person on our tax rolls. The notification contains the account number and owner name necessary to report both business receipts and business equipment online.
BUSINESS LICENSE RENEWAL
ANNUAL DEADLINE MARCH 1
Business owners who possess a 2014 Loudoun County Business License must obtain a 2015 license by reporting their calendar year 2014 gross receipts and paying the applicable license tax or fee at www.loudoun.gov/bpol-file. The annual FILING and PAYMENT DEADLINE is midnight, March 1. (Since March 1 falls on a Sunday this year, the due date is extended until midnight, Monday, March 2, 2015). After reporting the business receipts online, filers will be provided with a link to pay online as well. Owners of new businesses must obtain a license within 30 days of beginning business. This year for the first time, due to an amendment to Ordinance 840, home-based businesses grossing under $4,000.01 are no longer required to file. Businesses located in one of Loudouns incorporated towns should contact the respective town regarding business licensing requirements.
BUSINESS EQUIPMENT REPORTING
ANNUAL DEADLINE APRIL 15
Owners of business equipment that was located in Loudoun County on January 1, 2015, must report it for taxation at www.loudoun.gov/bppt-file. The reporting of original cost, year of purchase, location, and item description for all business equipment in the county is due by midnight, April 15, 2015. Resulting semi-annual tax bills for this equipment must be paid to the Treasurer by the June 5 and October 5 deadlines.
Business owners subject to local business taxes must file annually, even if there is no tax due or property to declare. Address changes and notification of business closure should also be reported at www.loudoun.gov/bpol-file.
