Christmas At Oatlands 2013This holiday season Oatlands, a National Trust Historic Site, is brimming with festive activity. Featured events include afternoon teas, holiday house tours, a small works art show, shopping, children’s theater, a wreath-making class, photo ops with Santa, and a gingerbread house contest.
This year’s Christmas exhibit will focus on “Christmas in the Roaring Twenties.” Each room of the 1804 Oatlands mansion will sparkle with unique historic and handcrafted decorations, some featuring materials from the gardens on the property. The holiday décor will also feature an abundance of greenery and beautifully decorated Christmas trees.
Holiday tours will be held on the half-hour, beginning on Nov. 18 and continuing through Dec. 30 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays. Tours are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for children 6 -16. Children 5 years old and younger are free. The last tour of each day begins at 4:30 p.m.
During the holiday season, Oatlands offers a unique shopping experience at the Carriage House Gift Shop. Arrayed in a variety of holiday gift items, the gift shop at Oatlands has become a destination for many shoppers in the region. Visitors are invited to come in to view the spectacular holiday displays.
The Four Seasons of Oatlands Art Show & Sale featuring small works of art will run from Nov. 18 to Dec. 30. Artwork will be on display in the historic Carriage House which will be open to the public Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. These small works are perfect holiday gifts and home décor items.
Oatlands’ Head Gardener Mark Schroeter will hold a wreath making workshop on Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. in the greenhouse. This informative session will help you create a beautiful wreath just in time for the holidays. Admission is $20 per person. Cut greens will be included. The Oatlands Gingerbread House Contest will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14. There are judging categories for adult entries and children’s entries. Judging will take place in the Carriage House at noon. Oatlands will host candlelight tours on Dec. 15, 20, 21, and 22 between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Guests will have a chance to enjoy a special evening tour through the mansion with a knowledgeable guide. Select evenings will feature live music in the mansion, echoing the sounds of Christmases past. Enjoy cookies and cider in the Carriage House. Candlelight tours are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for children 6 – 16.
On Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m. and Dec. 21 and 22 at 5:30 p.m., StageCoach Theatre Company presents “Jingle in the Jungle”. This fun and exciting holiday production is suitable for children of all ages. The event will also feature holiday refreshments and pictures with Santa in the Carriage House. Tickets for “Jingle in the Jungle” are $12 for adults and $10 for children ages 2-12. Afternoon tea at Oatlands continues throughout the holiday season. Fall teas will be served every Friday, Saturday and Sunday during November. Holiday teas will be served from Dec. 5 to Dec. 29 on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Teas are $26.95 per person (not including tax).
