Jefferson Ruritan Club - “Jefferson Ruritan Turkey Shoots”

Now in its 28th year, this is the longest running Turkey Shoot in the area. This is a fund-raising event: the premier source for this organization. It converts patron target shooting fees into community service donations; 100% of proceeds go to scholarships, and local public service organizations and charities. Operators are thoroughly trained; guaranteed fair competition; women and teens have successfully competed here; great target practice for the hunting season; ideal training opportunity for young and new shooters; fellowship and civic support. Thousands $$ worth of beef, turkey, ham and other food items will be awarded. Free targets as door prizes. Snack bar every night. Range is 30 yards. Following national trends to protect water sources, Winchester 12-gauge steel #7 shot, is supplied as part of target fees. Steel shot can be used safely in any gun with choke designated ‘modified’ or larger. For both safety and fair competition, other designations, or barrels tighter than 0.69”, may not be used. All barrels/chokes gauged on site. Max 36-inch barrel length; no scopes. For more information, call or go to the website.

State Theatre Presents - ““The Trip to Italy” (2014) Not Rated*

“The Trip to Italy” (2014) Not Rated* (*No one under the age of 17 will be admitted without a parent or guardian.) Michael Winterbottom’s largely improvised 2010 film, The Trip, took comedians Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon—or semifictionalized versions thereof—on a restaurant tour around northern England. In this witty and incisive follow-up, Winterbottom reunites the pair for a new culinary road trip, retracing the steps of the Romantic poets’ grand tour of Italy and indulging in some sparkling banter and impersonation-offs. Rewhetting our palates from the earlier film, the characters enjoy mouthwatering meals in gorgeous settings from Liguria to Capri while riffing on subjects as varied as Batman’s vocal register, the artistic merits of “Jagged Little Pill,” and, of course, the virtue of sequels. Winterbottom trains his camera to capture the idyllic Italian landscape and the gastronomic treasures being prepared and consumed while keeping the film centered on the crackling chemistry between the two leads. The Trip to Italy effortlessly melds the brilliant comic interplay between Coogan and Brydon into quieter moments of self-reflection, letting audiences into their insightful ruminations on the nuances of friendship and the juggling of family and career. The result is a biting portrait of modern-day masculinity.
