Virginia Elections Board removes GOP’s ‘Loyalty Oath’

- State officials agreed Thursday (Feb. 4) to honor the Republican Party of Virginia’s request to remove a requirement that voters sign a “loyalty oath” before voting in the March 1 presidential primary.

- For years, Ron Leftwich looked forward to News Year’s Day. He would don his tuxedo, grab the microphone and announce items to be auctioned to an eager audience, who raised numbered signs to place their bids at the Culpeper Auction House along Sperryville Pike.

- Every two years, following a general town council election, the mayor names council members to the four town council committees and town council representatives to various boards and commissions, as well as setting the calendar for various meetings. Normally, it doesn’t take too long. This year it was a bit different.

- The Culpeper town council’s Finance, Technology, Tourism and Technology Committee discussed Tuesday morning the financial crisis at the State Theatre that resulted in a six-week campaign to raise $400,000 by Dec. 31.

Culpeper County Board of Supervisors: Hoch resigns

- The big news from the first meeting of the Culpeper County Board of Supervisors meeting for 2016 came after their morning session and before their evening gathering. After their closed session in the afternoon, in which personnel matters were discussed, news spread quickly about the resignation of county administrator Ernie Hoch which was effective immediately.

- Hearing about those comments, Price wanted to give the council and staff another month to clarify and educate the public about the maintenance code.
