Manassas Ballet Theatre: Peter and the Wolf at Culpeper State Theatre

Charming, educational children’s ballet, classic Pas de Deux & two premiers in one program.
Join Manassas Ballet Theatre as they present an exciting program of classic and original works at Culpeper’s State Theatre March 7-8.
Originally composed as a symphonic work in 1936 to introduce young children to the instruments of the orchestra, Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf springs to life as an irresistible children’s ballet. MBT’s Vadim Slatvitskiy choreographs the adventurous story of Peter and his animal friends as they strike out on their own for a day of fun, culminating in the capture of the threatening wolf. Spirited Narrator Rachel Grimsby highlights Prokoviev’s use of specific instruments to represent each animal. Peter and the Wolf is sure to charm and entertain patrons of all ages.
In addition to Peter and the Wolf, MBT presents a classic grand pas de deux – the story of Diana and Actaeon. Originally choreographed by Vaganova to music composed by Cesare Pugni, the piece is meant to highlight the skill, grace and strength of its dancers, here portrayed by MBT’s Sara Gaydash and Josh Burnham. Tragically Greek and powerful, this is one of the most exciting grand pas in the ballet company repertoire.
