- Republican Eric Cantor will remain representing the 7th district of Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives. Cantor beat Democrat Wayne Powell with 215,498 (58.39%) to 152,916 (41.43%) in unofficial results.

Kaine takes Virginia

- While an early leader, Republican George Allen issues a statement conceding the race to Democrat Tim Kaine. At 12:30 a.m. with only 7 precincts not counted out of Virginia's 2588 precincts, Kaine led Allen 1,875,304 (51.79%) to 1,683,031 (48.02%).

On My Ray-dar column: Election night

- I caught up with Megan Revis Frederick about 8:30 at the Culpeper Cattle Company. The final results had just come in showing that she had defeated Paul Walther in the special election for Culpeper County commonwealth’s attorney.

9:00 p.m. update: Frederick and Fritz unofficial winners in local races

- With all precincts counted in Culpeper, two local races are determined. On the national level, Virginia still hanging in for the Republicans.

8:15 p.m. results posted: Romney ahead

- Early results have Virginia going red, but it's still very early.
