Culpeper Middle schooler earns recognition in Richmond

- At an award ceremony held within a Virginia Municipal League meeting in Richmond last Thursday Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe addressed a large crowd. The governor spoke briefly about education, a recently submitted state budget and employment numbers before he recognized eight young essay writers from across Virginia. One essay winner was selected from eight districts within the state.

Photo by Ian Chini. Sheriff Scott Jenkins was a happy camper Tuesday after the results came in close to 8 p.m. Relieved and in a celebratory mood, Jenkins takes time to give Dylan Emmel a hug. Dylan is the son of Derek Emmel, one of Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office K-9 deputies. Jenkins boasts numerous programs in support of Culpeper’s youth which he plans to continue.

- The Culpeper County Board of Supervisors Wednesday morning voted to move ahead with construction of the Western Outer Loop that will connect Eggbornsville Road with Sperryville Pike by approving moving revenue sharing funds from a 2014 road-paving project and telling county staff to give VDOT the go ahead.

Terry McAuliffe to fund a pretrial services program in Culpeper County next fiscal year to alleviate increased costs associated with housing inmates in other jails and the backlog of cases being prosecuted, the Culpeper County Board of Supervisors Wednesday morning discussed partnering with other localities with a pretrial services program or possibly with a one-of-a-kind non-profit program in the Charlottesville area.
