Victim of shooting in stable condition

Breaking news: Dec. 22, 2012

On Friday, Dec. 21 at 5:33 p.m., deputies received a call that a man had been shot in the leg following a verbal altercation with an acquaintance.

The two men were reportedly traveling north in an SUV on Route 29 in Culpeper when they had a verbal altercation.

David G. Thorsted, the driver, pulled his car over in a gravel lot before the Remington Bridge and ordered the male victim out of his car.

When the victim refused to get out, Thorsted allegedly pulled out a pistol and fired one round. The bullet struck the victim in the man’s thigh.

Thorsted then drove the victim to Culpeper Regional Hospital, where deputies met him and the victim. The victim was later transported to UVA where, as of today, he is in stable condition.

As a result of this incident, Thorsted, 54, of Rhoadsville is charged with unlawful wounding, wounding in the commission of a felony and reckless handling of a firearm.

Thorsted is being held in the Culpeper County Jail on no bond.
