Missing juvenile located in Locust Grove

The Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office has located a 12 year-old, runaway girl from Lignum. At approximately 3 p.m. a group of concerned citizens at a Burger King in Locust Grove (on Route 3) reported that the girl was at the restaurant.

Shortly afterward, detectives made contact with the girl at Burger King and confirmed her identity.

She was unharmed and reunited with staff from Child Help, the facility she had run away from.

The girl was last seen Monday at Child Help around 8 p.m. Since last evening deputies, multiple K-9 units and a search helicopter were used to search in and around approximately 260 acres of the Child Help facility.

Detectives believe the girl walked from the facility on foot through the woods and eventually caught multiple rides to the Burger King in Locust Grove.

A Code Red alert was issued Tuesday to phone numbers in Lignum and Richardsville in an effort to help find the girl.

Sheriff Scott Jenkins thanks the public and deputies for today’s diligence and efforts in the search.

The Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office is currently searching for a 12 year-old, runaway female in Lignum. She is 5 foot 8 inches tall and 115 pounds. She has gray eyes and sandy brown hair. She was last seen Monday at Child Help around 8 p.m. K-9’s tracked her near Rapidan Farms Drive. She was wearing a burgundy sweatshirt with an orange t-shirt underneath. She was also wearing dark blue jeans and her fingernails were painted green. the girl has a medical condition that requires medication.

Sheriff Scott Jenkins is encouraging the public to call 911 if people see someone matching this description.

Deputies and Multiple K-9 units are searching the area. A helicopter is also conducting air surveillance as part of the search.
