Rixeyville woman jailed after brief standoff and shot fired

On Jan. 24, 2013, at 10:50 a.m., deputies responded to a call for an attempted suicide at a residence on Fox Glade Lane in Rixeyville.

The caller reported that a woman in the house had a revolver and was threatening to commit suicide.

Upon their arrival, deputies were able to get the caller (another female) and a juvenile out of the house. After approximately 15 minutes, a window of the residence opened and a single shot was fired from within the home. Deputies outside did not return fire.

A short time later the single remaining occupant of the home was taken into custody.

Eight deputies and Sheriff Scott Jenkins responded to the scene; the agency’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team was activated but was not used because deputies resolved the incident quickly and safely.

“I’m pleased that no one was hurt, and I’m very proud of the teamwork and professionalism displayed by all of the deputies today,” Sheriff Jenkins said.

As a result of this incident, Nicole C. Mallory, 28, of Rixeyville, is charged with possession of a firearm after having been convicted of a felony (a felony offense) and reckless handling of a firearm (a misdemeanor offense).

Mallory is being held in the Culpeper County Jail on no bond. No photo of Mallory was available at the time of this posting.
