Recycling business vandalized

Culpeper police and the owner of a recycling operation want to identify a suspect, who caused thousands of dollars in damage to the business New Year's Eve.

The owner of Wise Services and Recycling, in the 700 block of Commerce Street, is posting a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

Sometime after about 1 a.m., Dec. 31, someone entered the recycling company’s yard by cutting through the fence, police said. Once inside the compound, the individual cut numerous wires and cables, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

About 10 p.m., the same day, the compound was entered again by cutting through the fence. The owner apparently scared off the suspect, who is described only as about six feet tall, wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information about this crime may anonymously contact Crime Solvers at 727-0300, where callers never have to give their name or testify in court to earn a cash reward, or call Detective Richard Brooking at 829-5504.
