Obama wins tight race in Virginia

Virginia remained an unknown quantity on the large maps displayed by CNN and other national news media well into Tuesday evening as votes continued to be counted. While Republican Mitt Romney took an early lead and captured much of rural Virginia, more populated areas like Norfolk and counties in Northern Virginia went with Obama. In a tight battle, Virginia was eventually colored blue with Obama capturing 1,797,511 (50.12%) of Virginia's votes to Romney's 1,731,867 (48.29%).

Culpeper County remained Republican with Romney taking 11,539 (57.27%) of the vote over Barack Obama's 8,263 (41.01%).
