Judo Jock

Earlier this month, Christian Herrera took silver in his first judo competition. Herrera, along with other students from Mt. Kim Culpeper Martial Arts, traveled to Baltimore, MD where they competed in the Shufu Eastern Open. With his father nervously watching, Christian lost his first round but went on to win his next three matches earning him a silver medal.

"It's great to see all of Christian’s hard work pay off!" said Master Dennis Byrne who, along with his wife Gabby, own and teach at Mt.  Kim. Byrne also participated alongside his students at the tournament and earned two Bronze medals in two separate adult black belt divisions and fought a total of 10 matches.

Judo is an Olympic sport gaining  popularity around the world. Christian’s father has also started training Judo at Mt. Kim and plans on competing in a future tournament. 

Other students at Mt. Kim Culpeper Martial Arts who participated included Michael Landry (Silver Medal) and Lee Metzger.
