Fire engulfs Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Gainesville

A severe fire engulfed Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Gainesville this morning, resulting in significant damage to the building but leaving no fatalities or injuries.

Fire personnel received the dispatch call at 4:37 a.m., arrived the church located at 15008 Lee Highway and saw smoke and flames shooting out from the sides, back and roof of the building, acrroding to Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue spokesperson Kim Hylander.

She said crews finally contained the fire at 5:16 a.m. Fire marshalls are on the scene and the cause of the fire is under investigation, Hylander added.

According to WTOP, police shut down the southbound lanes of U.S. 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville between U.S. 15 and Somerset Crossing. Northbound lanes of the road are still open to traffic
