Culpeper town police seek man involved in Sunday shooting

Culpeper police are looking for a 28-year-old Pittsylvania County man suspected of shooting at another man outside a Culpeper bar early Sunday morning.

Police secured arrest warrants charging Antwain Maurice Jones, of Chatham, Va., with felony attempted malicious wounding, felony use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and misdemeanor reckless handling of a firearm.

Police responded about 12:30 a.m., Sunday, to shots fired calls in the 100 block of East Davis Street at the Hazel River Pub. No one was injured during the shooting incident.

As Officer David Cole responded toward East Davis Street, he spotted two vehicles listed in the police radio broadcast headed south on Madison Road at a high rate of speed. A white SUV headed into the Southridge Town Homes subdivision, a black SUV stopped on Southridge Parkway. The 42-year-old driver of the black SUV spoke with Cole and explained what happened.

Officers located a white Chevrolet SUV in the Southridge neighborhood and towed the vehicle as evidence. Attempts to locate the driver or the vehicle’s occupants were unsuccessful.

Anyone with information regarding the incident or the whereabouts of Jones may contact Culpeper Crime Solvers at 540-727-0300 or Detective Lt. Andrew Terrill at 540-829-5521.
