Culpeper Annual Airfest soars Saturday
© Culpeper TimesCulpeper County is economically blessed to have the Culpeper Regional Airport.
It provides easy access for traveling executives and has made Culpeper a destination location for companies like Terremark Worldwide Inc. and Euro-Composites to name a few.
It is also home to one of the largest aviation draws in the region ― the Culpeper Air Fest. Now, in its 13th year, it just keeps growing and growing.
Tanya Woodward, who has more than two decades of experience managing the airport, anticipates a crowd upwards of 5,000 or more this year.
“We want adults and particularly young people to feel the excitement of aviation,” said Woodward.
This year's Air Fest honors 100 years of Marine Aviation.
Art Nalls, a retired Marine Lt. Col. Pilot, will hover in his privately owned Harrier as well as dazzle the crowd with high speed passes.
Look for county supervisor Steve Nixon performing in his R-22 helicopter.
Kids will be able to test their skills flying radio controlled airplanes as well as getting up close to the large array of flying machines and to meet the men and women who fly them.
The line up of performers is too long to list here but favorites like the Bealeton Flying Circus and their Wing-Walking Act will return.
County Administrator Frank Bossio recently appeared on Virginia Living Television's “It's All Local” program and shared with viewers that this year there is an 'extra surprise.'
“Folks shouldn't leave before the end,” advised Bossio. “We've got something very special planned...but it's a surprise.”
Bossio alluded to something aerial, something spectacular and something very amazing and realistic in the skies like you've never seen before.
