Early results in have Republican Mitt Romney in the lead with 10,727 votes compared with 4,611 for President Barack Obama. A closer race for the U.S. Senate seat has George Allen ahead with 430,240 to Tim Kaine's 333,786. Congressman Eric Cantor is ahead with 69,676 compared to Powell's 48,306.A close race for the Salem District Board of Supervisors seat has Republican Alexa Fritz slightly ahead of Sanford Reaves Jr. at 616 to 577.
Another close race is the Commonwealth's Attorney with Megan Revas Frederick currently ahead of Paul R. Walther by 6,018 to 5,358.
