Wild Ideas: Watching the wandering, whimsical water weasel

- Although fairly common in Virginia, river otters are just as elusive here. Semi-aquatic, they hunt and travel in and along streams and ponds.

Accolades

Twins Win. On Jan. 20, the Culpeper Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy held their yearly ceremony for Lee-Jackson Day. Several of the members dressed up for the occasion in period attire. They recognized students from Rappahannock and Culpeper County schools who participated in their essay and coloring contest. They also awarded college scholarships to two Rappahannock High School Seniors. Dylan and Evan Hitt, twin sons of Gary and Amy Hitt of Amissville, both received $1,000 each toward their college tuition. The boys are undecided about which colleges they will be attending, but are looking at George Mason, Virginia Tech, VMI, The Citadel, James Madison University, Penn State and Purdue. The following is a list of the winners of the underclassmen awards and their grade level. Congratulations to all the recipients and a special thanks to the UDC for their generosity to all the students of both school systems. First Place-Shannon Dodson-1st Grade; Second Place-Kamran Mashaw-1st grade; Third Place- Sydney Gerard- 1st grade; Third Place- Ethan Frost-1st grade; First Place – Kailyn Deal- Grade 2; Second Place- Isabella Guzman-Grade 2; Third Place –David Johnson- Grade 2; First Place-Gautam Raut- Grade 3 & 4; Second Place - Emily Shipe- Grade 3 & 4; Third Place- Samuel Pories- Grade 3 & 4; First Place- Rachel Weghorst-Grade 5 & 6; First Place-Annsley Rider- Grade 7; First Place -Kendall Rider- Grade 10.
